We’re a family-run electric cart hire business based on St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly.
We help visitors get around the island easily, comfortably, and without any fuss, whether you’re here for the day or staying longer.
The people behind Scilly Carts
Scilly Carts is owned by Mark and Emma, with our son Arran also working with us. We moved to the island in 2019 and took over the business in 2022.
When you come to collect your cart, you’ll usually be met by Mark or Arran, with Emma often popping by as well. We’ll get the paperwork sorted, show you how everything works, and have a quick chat about where you’re heading for the day.
You may also meet Tobi, our extremely friendly (and slightly spoiled) border collie, who has unofficially claimed the title of favourite employee
What we do (and how we do it)
We like to keep things friendly, reliable and straightforward. For us, hiring a cart isn’t just about transport, it’s about helping you have a good time on Scilly. That usually means taking the pressure off getting around, making it easier to see more of the island and giving a few local tips along the way.
We’ll always run through where you can go, how the carts work, and we’re very happy to suggest viewpoints, quieter roads, or a nice place to stop for a break.
Our life on St. Mary's
What we love most about St Mary’s is the views, the community and the energy. It’s a special place, and one we’re proud to call home. We’re very much part of island life:
Arran volunteers with the RNLI lifeboat crew, and loves anything to do with boats and diving, Emma also runs Popplestone Studio in Hugh Town and Maisie, our daughter, owns Traceless Designs just up the road on Porthmellon.
That sense of community is important to us, and we think it shows in the way we look after our customers.
Our carts & our approach
We run a small fleet of road-legal electric carts and take pride in keeping them clean, safe and well looked after. We want people to feel confident using them and comfortable throughout the day.
A lot of our customers come back to us year after year, which we really appreciate. We’re also proud of the lovely reviews we’ve received on Google and Tripadvisor. We think that comes down to being approachable, honest, and genuinely caring about people enjoying their time on the island.
